The ASUS ROG Flow Z13 was the first laptop with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395, and in October 2026 it is still the reference point. It is a 13.4-inch Windows tablet with a detachable keyboard, but inside it has the same chip as the Strix Halo mini PCs we cover, such as the GMKtec EVO-X2: 16 Zen 5 cores, Radeon 8060S graphics with 40 compute units, and up to 128GB of unified memory that the GPU can share. That makes it both a portable gaming machine and one of the few laptops that can load large local AI models.
This is the first of four articles on the best Ryzen AI Max+ 395 laptops you can buy in the US. Note that AMD’s newer Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 is starting to appear this month, mostly in expensive workstations, so the 395 is no longer AMD’s newest chip.

Performance
UltrabookReview measured the Z13 in each of its power modes. In Turbo (60W) it scored 27,562 in Cinebench R23 multi-core at about 45 dBA, and in Manual mode (80W) it reached 31,980. In Silent mode (35W) it stays under 35 dBA and still scores 21,714.
The graphics are what make it special. Notebookcheck’s review headline says the Radeon 8060S is “neck-and-neck with the RTX 4070 Laptop” in games. UltrabookReview’s numbers at the native 2560x1600 resolution in Turbo:
- 3DMark Time Spy: 9,836
- The Witcher 3, Ultra: 80 fps
- Far Cry 6, Ultra: 63 fps
- Cyberpunk 2077, Ultra with FSR: 54 fps
For local AI, the 128GB model is the one to look at: the unified memory lets the GPU use far more than any laptop graphics card’s VRAM, so 70B-class models and large mixture-of-experts models fit in memory.
Battery and thermals
UltrabookReview got 9 to 10 hours of text and video work in Silent mode, and about 1 hour of gaming on battery. Temperatures reached 75 to 80°C in Turbo and 85 to 90°C in Manual mode.
Prices in October 2026
The Z13 has dropped well below its $2,299 launch price. On October 10, 2026, Amazon (sold by Amazon) had the 395 with 32GB and 1TB at $1,971.00, and ASUS’s own 128GB model (GZ302EA-XS99) at $3,299.99. PC Guide reported a 64GB deal at $2,476.58 in late September.

Who should buy it
Gamers and local-AI tinkerers who want the most GPU in the smallest device, and who are fine with a tablet with a keyboard cover. The 32GB model at under $2,000 is a strong portable gaming machine; the 128GB model is for people who want to run large models away from their desk.
